Technology

LCTA provides an enriched learning environment that promotes the use of technology and supplies the resources to integrate technology into daily learning by our students, thereby achieving or exceeding the International Society for Technology Education standards for students. The use of technology as a tool enhances students’ understanding of the Core Knowledge curriculum subject matter for math, science, social studies and language arts.

A visit to any classroom in our school reveals our belief that technology is the key to our students' success in the 21st century. Our students are at the center of everything we do. As educators, our foremost goal is to prepare them for their future and build the skills and knowledge they need to learn effectively and live productively in an increasingly global and digital society. We strive for our students to be not only consumers of technology, but creators of content.

Classroom teachers use technology daily as an integral part of instruction, to monitor and assess student progress, and to communicate with parents. Our teachers are independent users of technology; utilizing laptops, chromebooks, SMART Boards and document cameras in their daily practice to engage and motivate students to become active participants in their education.

Students learn to use electronic research tools such as the internet, online library catalog, and subscription based multimedia sites to gather and analyze information. Internet safety is addressed beginning in 1st grade. Students in grades 3- 5 use the G suite (Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Classroom) to communicate, collaborate and create.

At LCTA our hardware includes:

  • 3 mini iPad carts purchased by the PTA.
  • 3rd grade classes have one Chromebook for each student purchased by the PTA.
  • 4th and 5th grade classrooms have one Chromebook for each student as part of the district-wide 1:1 grades 4 – 12 program.
  • 5 laptop carts.

ACPS is committed to providing all students with a technology-rich learning environment. With the support of our school board, we strive to build and maintain a 21st Century technology infrastructure, along with engaging software that requires higher-level thinking skills. Through the Office of Talent Development, Technology Services provides sustained and timely professional development that encourages the use of technology in innovative ways.
