Meet our Principal and Assistant Principal
Principal
Laura Burkart is the principal at Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy (LCTA), effective July 2023. She served as assistant principal since the beginning of the 2022-23 school year. Previously, Burkart was assistant principal at Mount Vernon Community School, having joined Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) in 2017. Before coming to ACPS, Burkart was a teacher in Arlington Public Schools for eight years and in Arkansas for four years. Burkart holds masters degrees in elementary education from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and in education leadership from George Mason University.

Assistant Principal
Colleen joined ACPS in 2017 as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. Prior to coming to ACPS, Colleen worked at Arlington Public Schools as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. This past summer, Colleen served as the Summer Learning Coordinator for the Preschool Program and has worked collaboratively on a variety of teams to support the early childhood programs.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Mason University, a Master’s degree in Special Education, Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Radford University, and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from George Mason University, and recently finished a Graduate Certificate in Education Leadership from George Mason University.
Colleen was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia.
